ThaliSnap (“we”, “us”) is an app that estimates calories in Indian meals from a photo or a typed description. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Questions: support@thalisnap.com.
- We collect only what the app needs to work: your goal, the meals you log, and an email or Apple ID if you choose to save your account.
- Meal photos stay on your phone. To find the dishes, a photo is sent to an AI service, which returns an answer. We don’t store the photo on our servers.
- We don’t sell your data, show ads, or use tracking or advertising SDKs.
- You can delete your account and all your data at any time from the app.
1. Information we collect
Account
When you first open ThaliSnap we create an anonymous guest account (a random ID) so your meals can be backed up. If you choose to save your account, we also store your email address, or the ID and email Apple gives us when you use Sign in with Apple (this may be a private relay address).
Profile
Your daily calorie goal, diet type (for example vegetarian), weight goal, and optionally your first name. If you use the goal calculator we also store the age, sex, height, weight and activity level you enter, so you can edit them later.
Meals
The dishes, portions, preparation style, calorie and nutrient estimates, meal type and date of each meal you log.
Photos and typed meals
When you snap or choose a photo, the app first shrinks it and removes hidden information such as location and camera details. It then sends the photo to our server, which passes it to an AI service to identify the dishes. Typed meal descriptions are handled the same way. We do not store photos or typed descriptions on our servers; your photo stays on your phone. Photos are only sent after you agree to this in the app, and you can turn it off in Account → AI meal reading.
Feedback
If you send feedback, we store your message, the feedback type, the dishes the AI found and your corrections, the app version and your phone type. Feedback never includes your photo.
Technical information
We count how many photo scans and typed meals each account uses per day, to keep the service fair and affordable. Our servers briefly process your IP address to prevent abuse, and our hosting providers keep standard security logs for a limited time.
2. How we use it
- To identify dishes, estimate calories and nutrients, and show your progress and meal ideas.
- To back up your meals and sync them between your devices.
- To send sign-in codes to your email.
- To fix problems and improve dish recognition and our food data, using feedback you send.
- To prevent abuse and keep the service secure.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it.
3. Who we share it with
We use the following service providers to run ThaliSnap. They process data on our behalf and only for these purposes:

We use Google’s and OpenAI’s paid API services. Under their API terms, they don’t use the content we send to train their models, and they may keep it for a limited time for abuse monitoring. We may also disclose information if required by law.
4. How long we keep it
We keep your account, profile and meals until you delete them or delete your account. Deleted meals are removed from your history right away and from our servers when you delete your account. Feedback is kept until you delete your account.
5. Your choices and rights
- Edit your goal and profile in the app at any time.
- Delete individual meals from your history.
- Turn off AI reading in Account; you can still log meals by searching.
- Delete your account and all data in Account → Delete my account and all my data, or email support@thalisnap.com. We complete email requests within 30 days.
- Get a copy of your data by emailing us.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK, California, or India under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act), you may have further rights, such as to access, correct or object to processing. Email us and we will help.
6. Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Each account can only read its own data, enforced by our database’s security rules. AI service keys are kept on our server and never in the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
7. Children
ThaliSnap is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used ThaliSnap, contact us and we will delete the account.
8. Health information
Calorie and nutrient figures are estimates for general wellness and are not medical advice. The body details you enter in the goal calculator are used only to suggest a calorie goal.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app.
